AI OGURA

Grid position: P21 – Started on Front: medium – slick tire & Rear: soft – slick tire
Dry track conditions in the morning 2nd Free Practice gave Ai the chance to gain experience of Michelin’s slick rubber and the different track condition, compared to Friday’s wet running. In Qualifying 1, the #79 showed pace but, ultimately his best lap in the session did not count after over-running the track limits allowance. That meant a final grid slot on P21 for the afternoon Sprint and Sunday’s Grand Prix.
Fast starting and fast finishing Lap 1 saw Ai gain places to 16th over the line.Consolidated and held on to 16th throughout the rest of the race.
No Championship points for the #79 but a confidence building run ahead of Sunday’s 21 lap Grand Prix.

“There’s not much to say about the race. After the start and the first lap, I was in P16 and I finished the Sprint in P16. There was no fighting, I was just riding my pace. To fight in a good position, we need two, three tenths more every lap and at least we know what the problem is, what to fix, so tomorrow we will work on this and see what happens in the main race.”

RAÚL FERNÁNDEZ

Grid position: P6 – Started on Front: medium – slick tire & Rear: medium – slick tire
Raul started the morning 2nd Free Practice session building good pace and backed that up in the 1st Qualifying session with P2 to go through to the all-important Q2.
Not able to quite replicate his Q1 lap time, Raul qualified P6 at the end of the 2nd Qualifying session – a strong result for the start of the Sprint and Sunday’s main race.
Battling first lap to hold station over the stripe and then consolidated in touch with the lead group for the next 4 laps.
Dropped to 7th, behind the factory Aprilia of Marco Bezzecchi, but kept pace with the leaders until the final lap.
Made his pace count on the last lap with a pass on Francesco Bagnaia - factory Ducati - for a strong 6th place finish.
Added 4 World Championship points to the slate and promising pace for the main race on Sunday.

“I’m very happy, we had a very nice Saturday. I’m very happy for myself but also for the team and from this morning, we made a very good job. In the second exit of the Practice I didn’t feel so good with the bike but they gave me directly what I needed to ride the bike fast and after that, we were strong in Q1, went to Q2, fought there for something very positive. During the Sprint, I felt very strong, but I have some margin to improve for tomorrow. We had a good Sprint, but I can be closer, as today we had the podium pace and like this we can fight for the podium but I have to improve myself. For tomorrow, I expect a very difficult race in terms of graining with the rear tire - we will focus on the critical turns to prepare the electronics well. I am happy, especially in the last three laps I was super strong and tomorrow we have 11 more laps to do that. I’m very motivated.”

“It has been a positive race and we are happy for Raul. Starting from the second row, he was able to keep the pace of the top guys and he arrived very close to the top, so it was a good performance. This gives good hopes for the main race tomorrow. For Ai, I think it was quite a good Sprint because we needed to use the Sprint to make some laps and to understand more. In fact, we have seen there is room to improve his setting for tomorrow’s race. So, I believe the Sprint was kind of a good additional test for us with Ai. We will analyze the data tonight and try to improve his bike for tomorrow. Tomorrow, for both, the tire choice will probably be one element to carefully assess. We will see and work again tonight to get ready for the main race tomorrow.”
