RAÚL FERNÁNDEZ
“I missed Q2 by 0.001! But it was good. Today the conditions have been very tricky, I don’t know what happened but I felt zero grip and then with the bike, we couldn’t use the medium front. It was quite dangerous and also with the medium rear it was difficult to reach a good temperature - it was very strange. I still think we made a good job, we didn’t make a mistake and have been working on the pace for tomorrow’s Sprint. I have a good pace but, obviously, I’m a bit frustrated not to be in Q2. We have another opportunity tomorrow but, more important is that I feel completely ready, I have two great bikes with the same configuration and we did some good work today.”
AI OGURA
“We had a difficult day. Especially on the first outing, the grip was really tricky, but it was getting better, although still not fantastic even at the end of the day. The bike is working OK, also the tires once they get to the correct temperature and it’s in the window, then it’s all fine, but when it’s not, there is no warning. For me it’s hard to understand but I guess that comes with experience. When I crashed, I didn’t do anything special, had just a bit more lean angle, which was the only difference. I don’t really know how it happened and my crew is still checking. Also, later, when I was back out, I didn’t have any problem in that corner, so I think it’s going to be all right and I’m OK too.”
“First of all, we are happy that Ai’s crash didn’t lead to any consequences, although it was quite spectacular and a big scare. Luckily, he was able to go back out on a bike. Of course, it’s a pity because this broke the rhythm and the plan and then you have to work to recover confidence and everything, but it’s OK. Anyway, he’s well and tomorrow we’ll continue the work. For Raul it was a good day. To be out of the top 10 by one thousand of a second hurts but anyway, it’s also a good sign that we are very close. We could have done it, we were almost in Q2 and of course, we have to try tomorrow. Anyway, it was a good day, we had a decent pace that was quite competitive, so we are looking forward to tomorrow.”
