Notes & Quotes:
Double points for the Trackhouse MotoGP Team and a highlight 6th place finish for #79 Ai Ogura marked a strong weekend for the American team at the Barcelona track, just a couple of days ago. With #25 Raul Fernandez claiming 11th place and Ai’s consistently high race pace in the Grand Prix of Catalunya, the team arrive at Misano World Circuit, for the San Marino Grand Prix this week, in confident mood.
Coming back to Italy, after the visit for the Italian Grand Prix, at Mugello, earlier in the season, means another homecoming for Aprilia, the racing partner of Trackhouse. The RS-GP25 has developed through the season and is proving competitive at both high-speed tracks and the slower, stop-start, type of circuit which bodes well for the coming weekend. Misano World Circuit offers a mix of fast, long corners and some tight turns which, as a clockwise track, put some energy into the right side of Michelin’s tire options and some heavy braking points, particularly into turn 13, after the long, fast, back section of the track.
Raul Fernandez knows his way around the seaside based Misano track well; a 2nd place podium in his debut Red Bull Rookie Cup season – 2015 – marked his card early. That was followed by the 6th of 8 wins he posted in his stellar Moto2 campaign in 2021, his victory at Misano capping a dominant performance – pole position and leading the final half of the race. Scoring points in Barcelona and a run of strong results through the mid-season, sees Raul in determined mood for this year’s San Marino weekend.
His Japanese, rookie, teammate arrives in Italy hot off a solid weekend in Barcelona. Finding increasing pace from his Trackhouse Aprilia RS-GP25, Ai Ogura rode a mature, tire conserving, strategy in the Grand Prix to come home in 6th place. Good for his World Championship points tally but more importantly, finding increasing performance re-enforces confidence in the approach he and his crew have been taking as Ai’s first premier class season progresses. Like Raul, Ai has form at Misano; a win in his 2017 Red Bull Rookie season was followed by 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the two Moto3 class races held at the track in 2020. Hitting his stride in his Moto2 World Championship winning season, Ai took victory in the San Marino round to extend the points lead he was building in the intermediate class which
Plenty to savor for the US Trackhouse MotoGP Team arriving in Italy this week and the opportunity to make a mark ahead of the Championship’s departure from Europe, after the weekend, as all the MotoGP teams head to Japan – Ai’s first home MotoGP race – and the tour of Asia and Australia.
Before that, Misano World Circuit provides the pavement canvas for the Trackhouse riders to continue their 2025 Championship challenge. Forza!
RAÚL FERNÁNDEZ
“I’m looking forward to Misano. We found the way that we were looking for in terms of feeling on the bike again last week in Barcelona. We definitely need to target to get a better Qualifying because then we can, obviously, also do a better race. So, this is the main goal and we’ll work hard to get there straight away.”
AI OGURA
“Compared to Barcelona I think the grip level in Misano is going to be a lot higher. We need to adapt quickly again, ideally from Friday morning, which went well last week in Barcelona. It’s just another new circuit for me on the MotoGP bike - I’ll give my maximum and see what happens.”
“We come to Misano after a good weekend in Barcelona for Ai and where it could have been better for Raul for what his potential was in performance. Let’s try to keep the momentum we had in Barcelona where both riders had the potential to be in the top 10, so we want to try to do this also in Misano and we’ll see if we can keep this performance also in different circuits. It’s, of course, great to come back to Italy - to a nice place like Misano. Hopefully, we can also enjoy it on the track.”
