AI OGURA

Grid position: P20 – Started on Front: soft – slick tire & Rear: soft – slick tire
Crashed in Qualifying 1 and was unable to make the top two to progress into second Qualifying.
In the Sprint - gained 1 spot on Lap 1 and ran in 19th until Lap 4. Gained a position to 18th and held station for 6 laps before a crash ahead promoting him to 17th for the final 4 laps.
Finished P17 on the road and promoted to P16 after a penalty was imposed on #32 post-race.

“The Sprint hasn’t been great today. First of all, the grip was not really helping and on the first lap, for me it was really difficult to overtake the other riders because the first four corners are all right corners, so everybody is more or less on the same line and it’s not easy to make something special or different, so I was stuck behind. Even after that, when there’s much more space between the riders compared to the first few laps, I still struggled to pass and couldn’t gain any positions in the race. The weekend in general, so far, was quite tricky. Normally I’m building up my confidence lap by lap, but yesterday, I crashed. Today I was building up again and crashed again, so it’s hard to find the confidence. I need to find a bit more feeling and consistency.”

RAÚL FERNÁNDEZ

Grid position: P11 – Started on Front: soft – slick tire & Rear: soft – slick tire
P2 in the morning 1st Qualifying session which put Raul through to Q2.
Off the Sprint race start, contact in the open stages of Lap 1 damaged the #25 Trackhouse Aprilia, forcing Raul to pit and ultimately retire. Investigation showed that his RS-GP25 had a technical issue in the throttle body.

“Today we can see the glass half full or half empty. I would like to think it was half full but, for some reason, we had some issues with the bike and they could have been much worse, so I want to believe we were lucky. A positive is that we are in P11 on the grid and I think we have the pace to fight tomorrow. The speed is there, we improved a lot compared to yesterday and step by step I felt better with the bike. My feeling with the bike is good and we made it to Q2 and today, we had the pace to fight for points, but it didn’t happen. Tomorrow, we have another opportunity.”

“We’ve been a little bit unlucky today. Raul had a good Qualifying, managed to get into Q2, so we secured a good starting position but unfortunately, on the first lap we had an issue with the throttle body and he had to retire. But we keep this confidence for tomorrow. For Ai, he was struggling a bit to get back to the feeling. We will try to see what we can do in terms of a setting to help him to be more comfortable on the bike and to feel more what is going to happen. We need to figure out how we can help him for tomorrow and are looking forward to Sunday.”
