Notes & Quotes:
Double points for Trackhouse MotoGP Team, from the French Grand Prix at Le Mans, was a welcome outcome last time out. Apart from 9 World Championship points for his 7th place finish, for #25 Raul Fernandez, finding consistent pace from his Trackhouse Aprilia RS-GP25 in challenging conditions was the most important result.
Also, for #79 Ai Ogura, the mixed, mainly wet track conditions in France on Sunday meant valuable experience gained for the young, Japanese, rookie who posted another good finish in 10th spot.
Next time out, the American team arrives in England for the Grand Prix of the United Kingdom, confident that pace exists with its bikes but needing to unlock the potential in the all-important Friday running. Qualifying further up the Sprint and Grand Prix grid will likely be the key to stronger showings when points are at stake.
Silverstone, host track for MotoGP in England, is a unique proposition and one that the riders, generally, enjoy. The longest lap of the season and very fast, flowing and expansive, the track offers several opportunities for the RS-GP’s to stretch themselves with long straights and some quick corners which demand good balance on lean and confidence from the riders. Braking is heavy in several places and grip levels consistent, but this is a place that needs straight line speed and efficient aero – it will be an interesting workout for both the Aprilia package and both Trackhouse pilots.
For Raul Fernandez, the pace he found in Le Mans is a confidence booster coming to Silverstone. Last year, the Aprilia worked well – setting fastest lap – and Raul has plenty of experience around the historic Silverstone track. Ai is also no stranger to the UK circuit and having set the Moto2 outright lap record last year, he will arrive at Round 7 armed with more experience of his #79 RS-GP25, in dry conditions and now in the wet.
Lots to look forward to for the US MotoGP Team in England – at a track where the Aprilia has shown real pace in past years!
Track action at the Grand Prix of the United Kingdom gets underway with FP1 – Friday, May 23 at 11.45 am (GMT+1)
AI OGURA
“It looks like the Aprilia was really competitive in Silverstone last year and the circuit is also a quite good one for me so I’m excited to go there. The track is very long, so it’s not easy to understand everything - all parts of the track. I guess it will be a bit complicated with the MotoGP bike, that’s what I expect. It’s going to be tough and we’ll see how the conditions look. But, anyway, it’s not a bad circuit for me and I always have fun riding there. We’ll just work within the team and try our best to reach our 100% and have a good run in England.”
RAÚL FERNÁNDEZ
“I’m really happy to go to Silverstone. We did a good job in France, so I’m very motivated to continue on this path. Of course, we will have to see what we can do and how the conditions are going to be. I would like to continue with the good feeling we found. I’m very positive and I can’t wait to be back on the bike in the UK!”
“We arrive in Silverstone after Le Mans which, for us, was quite positive with a good improvement from Raul and another good performance by Ai in difficult conditions. It looks like the improvement we found in Jerez has worked well in Le Mans, so we are looking forward to getting some confirmation also in Silverstone and to continue our progress. We were happy to see Raul improving and we will continue our path with Ai in his rookie season. Silverstone is a great circuit - it’s a good opportunity to assess our progress.”
