Trackhouse Racing's Shane van Gisbergen won Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race on the Chicago Street Course. Teammates Ross Chastain finished 10th and Daniel Suárez 29th.

Van Gisbergen led twice for 26 of the 75 laps. He took the lead with 16 laps remaining and persevered through two full-course cautions.

It is his second victory of the season (Mexico City last month) and third career victory in just 33 races. Only Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell have more victories in 2025 than Van Gisbergen.

Van Gisbergen's first victory came in his NASCAR debut at the same Chicago Street Circuit in July 2023, driving for Trackhouse Racing's PROJECT91 program. He has won two Cup races and two Xfinity races on the track, including yesterday's Xfinity race.

The Auckland, New Zealand native is the only driver not from the United States to win at least three NASCAR Cup Series races. He is also the first driver since Kyle Busch at Indianapolis in 2016 to sweep pole and race wins in both the Xfinity and Cup races at the same track on the same weekend.

It was Trackhouse Racing's third victory in 2025 and 11th victory since it began NASCAR Cup Series racing in 2021. It started as a single-car Chevrolet team before expanding to two full-time cars in 2022 and three cars in 2025.

Van Gisbergen is one of five Team Chevy drivers to earn a playoff berth. The rookie driver delivered the Bowtie brand its eighth victory in 19 points-paying races thus far this season.

Chastain started 22nd and raced into the top-10, where he spent most of the race. A spin on a restart with 11 laps remaining slowed his progress, but he rallied for the 10th-place finish - his ninth of the 2025 season.

Suárez started 18th, but his race didn't last long. On lap three, another car hit the wall and blocked the track. Cars piled into one another. The No. 99 Jockey Chevrolet suffered severe damage, but could continue at slower speeds. The car overheated with two laps to go, leaving Suárez with a 29th-place finish.

Chastain drove from 22nd to sixth in the first stage, while polesitter Van Gisbergen fell from second to 11th when he pitted in the closing laps to secure a better starting position for Stage 2. Suárez finished 29th as his team continued to make repairs from the early race accident.

Van Gisbergen and Chastain pitted from the top five late in Stage 2 before finishing 12th and 17th. Suárez didn't pit and finished 18th in his damaged car.

Van Gisbergen won his third career pole on Saturday. It marked Trackhouse Racing's fifth pole in its history.

The NASCAR Cup Series returns to action on Sunday, July 13, on the road course race at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway.

SHANE VAN GISBERGEN

“It was a brilliant day for this No. 88 WeatherTech Chevrolet team. Our car was really, really nice – the best car I’ve had here, by far. The strategy was a bit all over the place, as we knew it would be today – racing the weather, racing cars and different stops. Stephen (Doran, crew chief) did a really good job on the box all day of just painting the picture in my head of who I was up against. We had two great pit stops. Just so stoked to get WeatherTech in victory lane for their home race.”

ROSS CHASTAIN

"We had a really good day in our Busch Light Apple Chevrolet at the Chicago Street race. We were able to run up front even with all of the varying strategies. Its fun to race here and work on getting better and better. I'll take the 10th-place finish. It's my best here and I feel like that's a pretty big accomplishment for me at this track."

DANIEL SUAREZ

“Obviously very disappointed. I felt like we didn’t really get a chance to race today. There wasn’t much anyone could do in the wreck. The whole track was blocked and our Jockey Chevrolet took a lot of damage. We got it to where we could make laps but that’s about all we could do.”
