As a native of Alva, Florida, Ross Chastain grew up growing watermelons on his family’s farm when he wasn’t turning laps at local short tracks. Now 30, Chastain competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series for Trackhouse Racing’s No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, where his trademark celebration upon winning has become smashing a watermelon.
Over the last three seasons, Chastain has logged 200 starts in NASCAR’s top three national touring series, earning him the title of NASCAR’s busiest driver. Chastain's first victory in NASCAR competition came in 2018 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, sweeping all three race stages in spectacular fashion. He has since won six more races in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. In 2019, Chastain finished second in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings and won the most popular driver award.
The year 2022 proved to be career defining for Chastain. Through midpoint in the season, he scored two victories at Circuit of the Americas and Talladega Superspeedway, along with 8 top-5 and 11 top-10 finishes, all while leading 426 laps. In the penultimate race of 2022 at Martinsville, Ross made a miracle move known as the "hail melon" to secure a spot in the Championship 4. Capping off a remarkable inaugural year with Trackhouse Racing, finishing second overall.
